Anna Leder receives J.C.W. Shepherd PhD Student Prize

Anna Leder

Former nanoscience student Anna Leder, who is currently writing her doctoral thesis with Prof. Dr. Sebastian Hiller (Biozentrum), was awarded the J.C.W. Shepherd PhD Student Prize for her excellent scientific achievement at the Biozentrum Symposium 2025. She was honored for the discovery that the endoplasmic reticulum is divided into dynamic “folding factories” that enable efficient and effective protein folding. The corresponding publication will be published soon.

Anna Leder had already received the prize for the best Master's thesis in nanosciences at the University of Basel in 2021.

The J.C.W. Shepherd PhD Prize of the Biozentrum was endowed by the wife of John C. W. Shepherd in memory of her husband. Shepherd was a colleague of Prof. em Walter Gehring at the Biozentrum. The prize is awarded annually to up to three doctoral students for outstanding scientific research at the Biozentrum and the ability to summarize this in an essay. The awardees are selected by the PhD Fellowships Program Committee.
