About the program

Right from the start, the interdisciplinary nanoscience curriculum combines the disciplines of physics, chemistry and biology with the world of nanostructures.

Graduates of the three-year degree program are awarded the title “Bachelor of Science”, majoring in nanoscience. They can then spend a further three semesters earning a “Master of Science” in nanoscience.

The program structure and crediting of academic achievements (ECTS credit points) are aligned with the provisions of the Bologna Process.

Students can move to other European universities without interrupting their studies. Mobility is also ensured within the University of Basel itself: The new degree program is compatible with the other science courses.

Students speak

MathiasWe learned how the smallest parts have a big impact.

Nora: The small number of students creates a feeling of solidarity and enables us to have personal contact with our lecturers.

Raphael: If you’re interested in science in general, then the nanoscience program is a perfect fit. It creates a foundation that you can fall back on at any time. You can always specialize later. Plus, contact with the physics, chemistry and biology students is ideal.

Janne: Studying nanoscience has given me in-depth insights into physics, chemistry and biology. I really appreciate the way that my studies have allowed me to work on a wide range of interdisciplinary questions.

Etienne: The world in a nutshell is so fascinating that society should be discussing it much more than it does. The two scientific hypertheories – evolutionary theory and quantum theory – are based on the same principle: Serendipity on a nanoscale. And that’s why I’m studying nanoscience…

Ralph: I studied nanoscience because I’m interested in all scientific disciplines and the interfaces between them. The nanoscience program fits the bill perfectly.
