Prof. Tomasz Smoleński is a new member of the SNI network, succeeding Prof. Christian Schönenberger, our former director. Smoleński recently became a tenure-track assistant professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Basel and has now been awarded an ERC Starting Grant.

Smoleński's research focuses on systems consisting of many electrons, wherein strong interactions lead to complex and often surprising behavior. These systems can give rise to new phases of matter, including superconductors, electronic crystals, and exotic topological states.
