Tool of the Month: DriveAFM
The first instrument we are featuring in our new series “Tool of the Month” is the DriveAFM from NanoSurf. This innovative atomic force microscope (AFM), which not only images surfaces but also precisely measures their mechanical and electrical properties, has been part of the SNI Nano Imaging Lab’s equipment for some time now.
Thanks to innovative Wave Mode technology, the DriveAFM enables particularly fast and gentle measurements without damaging the sample. The instrument is fully motorized, including automatic laser alignment, which makes it exceptionally user-friendly—ideal for occasional users.
The DriveAFM is extremely versatile: It is used in semiconductor research, with 2D materials such as graphene and in the fabrication of nanostructures for quantum devices. It measures heights, defects and surface properties with atomic precision. In addition, the AFM tip can specifically manipulate structures, such as graphene flakes for quantum applications.
