Information for PhD students

Congratulations! You are now a member of the SNI PhD School and a junior member of the Swiss Nanoscience Institute.

As you work on your doctoral dissertation, you will learn a lot of new things, gain life experience and – most importantly – put a lot of work into your field of research. Thanks to the SNI’s special structure, you will also get to know colleagues, friends, and topics outside of your field. Although you may be integrated into the University of Basel, the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland, the Paul Scherrer Institute, or D-BSSE, we always encourage exchange with other projects.

The SNI believes it is important to support and promote this interdisciplinarity. We therefore run highly interdisciplinary events for our doctoral students – such as the Annual Event and the Nanoscience in the Snow Winter School – that will enable you to look beyond your own field of research. The SNI also provides its doctoral students with tailored courses on topics that will remain important once you have completed your doctorate.

This page provides information about events in the SNI PhD School, credit points, and other regulations.

We wish you an intensive time at the SNI filled with experiences. If you have any questions or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
